Combined Course Descriptions and Costs

PreK - 4th Grade

$150 for the first student, $110 for additional

Memory Work: We will be using Claritas Publishing, which provides a Classical, Christ-Centered, and Comprehensive time where we will seek to cultivate wisdom and virtue by nourishing the child’s soul on truth, goodness, and beauty so that, in Christ, the student is enabled to better know, glorify, and enjoy God. Our Memory Work aligns with four historical cycles and consists of Scripture, Latin, English Grammar, Math, Science, History, Geography, Timeline, and Hymns. We will be utilizing cycle 2: The Middle Ages for the 2024/25 school year.

Art: Utilizing The Good and the Beautiful’s art curriculum for grades K-5 students will be creating watercolor projects, pastel pictures, nature crafts, and much more.

Music: during our chapel time each week, students will learn hymns that coincide with the Claritas memory work curriculum.

History/Geography: Students will dig deeper into history and geography learned in their memory work time using the Story of the World book as a resource. Activities will include map work, historical crafts, read-alouds and much more.

Science: students will dig deeper into their cycle 2 science memory work with activities that cover topics such as: stars, galaxies, planets & constellations, Copernicus, Galileo, parts of the earth, natural cycles, biomes, clouds, tides. and more! Students will also create their own science notebooks with pages to “Sketch, Narrate, Write, and Draw.”

PE: Students will enjoy a time of structured play while learning the importance of physical activity and moving the bodies God blessed them with.

Free Play & Rest: This will be a structured time of rest and free play in the time block after lunch. Experience has taught us that these younger students thrive best with this schedule. Time for rest and play allows them to learn the important skill of quieting themselves and also gives them room for the valuable experience of free play with other children and outdoor time set within a structured block of time.

Electives (optional): Electives are how we culminate the Community day at Veritas. This is a time of parent led learning with an emphasis on learning a skill or participating in an event that is both fun and engaging for the group. Some examples of electives from last year include: drawing, cooking, theater, volleyball, etiquette and community service projects. Cost is determined by the parent/teacher leading the elective and paid directly to him/her.

4th - 6th grade

$150 per student *(additional required materials/books to be purchased for writing, grammar, and science)

*pre-requisite: students in these 4-6th grade classes need to be reading at an ‘end of year’ (EOY) third grade reading level. Please look closely at the curriculums we will be using and the sample lessons when determining the right class schedule for your children. If you are unsure and need help determining this, please reach out to us and we will be happy to assist you.

Writing: (optional for 4th grade) - Using the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) curriculum, students will improve their knowledge of medieval times while learning to write with structure and style. This theme-based writing curriculum helps students learn to take notes, retell narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, compose essays, and much more.

Grammar: (optional for 4th grade) Students will enjoy learning grammar as they use the Claritas Publishing Fundamentals of Grammar curriculum to learn the fundamentals of the English language, including the parts of speech, analyzing sentences, learning composition rules, practicing sentence diagramming, and parsing sentences.

Science: Utilizing Apologia Earth Science and the accompanying Junior Notebooking Journal students will enjoy this elementary-level Earth Science course that points students to God as they discover what makes Earth special and capable of sustaining life.

History/Geography: (This course will be broken down into one semester each of Texas State History and Geography) - For Texas History we will be using the curriculum, In Light of the Cross and for geography students will enjoy an interactive course featuring interactive activities, songs, workbooks and maps to learn the geography of the world.

General Science (Combined with 8th grade) - $150 per student: This course is designed to provide a transition from elementary to middle school sciences and will give students an understanding of the world that surrounds them so they can appreciate the real-world relevance of scientific inquiry and the beauty of Creation. This course will include science labs to be completed in class.

American History 1 - $50 per student: In this class, students will utilize America the Beautiful by Charlene Notgrass as they dive into history, geography, and literature from the history of the U.S. beginning with life in America before Europeans came and continuing through the first years after the Civil War. Daily lessons will guide students chronologically through American history, highlighting key events, people, and places.

Traditional Logic Semester 1 - $30 per student: In this class students will learn and practice the art of logic. A skill that will benefit them in all areas of life. This logic course can be for all ages but is designed for use as young as 7th grade, Traditional Logic is an in-depth study of classical syllogism. Along with a basic understanding of the Christian theory of knowledge. Students will be presented with the four kinds of logical statements, the four ways propositions can be opposed, the three ways which they can be equivalent, and the seven rules for the validity of syllogisms.

Geography Semester 2 - $60 per student: Students will be using Exploring World Geography by Ray Notgrass. This class will focus on explaining the world God created. Students will learn about mankind's interaction with the world both in the past and in the present. The curriculum addresses two main questions: How has the physical world made a difference in what people have done, how they have lived, and how they live today? How have people made a difference in the physical world, and how are they making a difference in it today?

Exposition - $50 per student: Students will use the Lost Tools of Writing curriculum to begin learning persuasive writing. This style of writing will be taught in 7th through 9th grade. Students will learn how to identify and express their message clearly and vividly. This important skill will help students to succeed in college if that is their path, and it will also help them develop cognitive habits related to decision making, and communication with friends and foes alike. This is a skill that will transfer to debate, public speaking, law, medicine, or ministry. American History - $65 per student: In this Highschool level history course, students will learn about the past of our nation using Notgrass curriculum. This includes textbook material as well as numerous original documents, speeches, poems, stories, and hymns from American history. Semester 1 covers Columbus Through Reconstruction and Semester 2 covers the late 1800s to the present.

Exposition - $50 per student: Students will use the Lost Tools of Writing curriculum to continue learning persuasive writing. This style of writing will be taught in 7th through 9th grade. Students will learn how to identify and express their message clearly and vividly. Government Semester 1 - $50 per student: In this one-semester course for high school students will explore the government of the United States from its beginning to the present with special emphasis on the Biblical pattern for government & on the U.S. Constitution. They will learn about the operations of federal, state, & local government, & about issues facing our nation today. This will help equip them to understand, pray for, & be involved in our country’s leadership.

Economics Semester 2 - $50 per student: Students will use the Notgrass curriculum, Exploring Economics, in this half-year course that is centered on God's Word & helps equip your student to better understand what economics is and how it affects our lives.

Biology with Labs - $175 per student: Students will enjoy learning biology through the lens of a Christian worldview with a strong emphasis on vocabulary and experiments and dissections. This is a foundational course that covers everything students need to prepare successfully for a college-level biology course.

Chemistry with Labs (Possible Outside Teacher) - cost TBD: Students in this class will receive a strong foundation in chemistry with the goal of preparing them for college-level studies. Utilizing Apologia’s Chemistry curriculum, this course fosters in-depth discussions and provides clear and thorough explanations of concepts. It also explores the lives and work of Christian scientists who made a difference in the chemistry field while giving glory to God. It is recommended for students who take this course to be proficient in algebra.

British Literature - $65 per student: Using the comparison essay format and prompts students will read a selection of the following literature. This class will focus heavily on discussion. Students will learn writing in the comparison essay format and will go in depth into the books they read. 10th grade novel options (to be finalized before the year begins) Beowulf, Sir Gawain, Paradise Lost, Robinson Crusoe, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Tale of Two Cities, Father Brown stories, Hobbit, Animal Farm, A Modest Proposal, Importance of Being Earnest, The Catcher and the Rye, The Kite Runner, A Christmas Carol, The Great Gatsby, Shakespeare's Macbeth, 1984, The Picture of Dorian Gray.

World History - $65 per student: Students will receive a thorough study in world history from Creation to the 21st century using Exploring World History by Notgrass. This curriculum presents ancient, medieval, and modern history from the perspective of faith in God and respect for His Word. It offers a thorough survey of Western civilization with significant coverage of Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
